Color Test

This is an easy to use test to screen preschoolers for red-green colorblindness. Two easily recognized symbols are presented to the child and difficulty recognizing the red star indicates the need for further testing. The orange circle is seen by all.

The Chart was developed to provide a less complicated, more economical, screening test to detect the major color deficit seen in male children. The test was validated by J. Chen, M.D. of the Department of Family Medicine, University of Maryland School of Medicine in a paper titled " Rapid Detection of Red-Green Color Vision Deficit-- The Creamer Test " The Chart was awarded third prize for scientific merit at a meeting of The Southern Medical Association.

Color Test

About 5% of all male children and many females have some degree of inherited red-green color confusion. This problem can cause the child difficulty with daily activities and is an important factor in the choice of careers. Although color blindness cannot be cured, early detection in children is advisable to inform parents and teachers that there is a problem and counseling can be provided.
