DR. HARVEY MAYERS, BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Harvey MayersDr. Mayers graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 1975 and after a residency program returned to Toronto to begin private practice in Etobicoke. He has published several papers on Contact Lenses in Canadian and British journals. Since 1978 Dr. Mayers has worked on outreach programs for the Metropolitan Toronto Association for Community Living. He has performed on site eye examinations for mentally challenged adults and continues to examine all special needs patients.

He has served as Chief of Primary Care Service and Contact Lens Service at The Vision Institute of Canada and has been a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry since 1982. Dr. Mayers has performed in-office clinical evalutions for a num ber of Canadian and American contact lens manufacturers and pharmaceutical corporations.

He has presented published papers at The American Academy of Optometry as well as the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Conventions of the Ontario Associations of Optometrists.

He has practiced with sub-specialty ophthalmologists at the Etobicoke Medical Center from 1996 to 2001. Dr. Mayers is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, the Canadian Association of Optometrists and teh scientific division of the Canadian Diabetes Association. Dr. Mayers has been inprivate practice at the Sunlife Financial Center (formally the Shipp Center) since 1986.

He completed therapeutic pharmaceutical certification in Oklahoma in 1994 and in Toronto in 2007. Research interests are in adaptation of computerized video microscopy and other forms of digital imaging systems to private practice.

Since 2002 Dr. Mayers has served on a number of committees for the College of Optometrists of Ontario.

He enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 children, sporting events, philosophy, photography, listening to jazz and golfing.

DIANE REGO, C.C.O.A. BIOGRAPHY

Diane Rego Diane has been working with Dr. Mayers since 1994 and over the years has been involved in all aspects of the practice.

Diane is a Certified Canadian Optometric Assistant. She is trained in retinal imaging as well as  pretesting equipment and visual fields. She is involved in frame selection, ordering and inventory management of the ophthalmic department of the clinic and the edging and insertion of lenses in the in-office laboratory. The office extensive computer networks have developed primarily due to her inspiration and knowledge.

Diane also functions as the office manager and administrator working with accountants as well as staff , industry representatives and assisting Dr. Mayers in patient care. Diane trains and manages all new staff and attends continuing education courses in Canada and the United States. Diane enjoys challenges. She enjoys spending time with her husband and her nieces, motorcycle races, computer systems, home design and travel.

TERESA FIGUEIREDO, RECEPTIONIST

We'd like to welcome Teresa who is our newest staff member! Teresa has had over 15 years experience as a receptionist in the medical field. Her receptionist job is important because receptionists have the unique responsibility of being the first point of contact for our office, and being responsible for leaving a good first impression with all patients. Teresa is the friendly voice you hear when you call our office for the first time. Teresa typically answers and directs calls, greets patients, books appointments and handles most inquiries.

ELENA VIE1RA, C.C.O.A. BIOGRAPHY

Elena has been with Dr. Mayers’ clinic since 2002. She has worked in many roles in the office and since becoming a Certified Canadian Optometric Assistant has taken over administrative tasks as well as management of the contact lens department. She manages interprofessional relations and periodic reception tasks. She also interfaces with industry representatives in the areas of contact lenses and ocular disease.
She is our primary pretest technician and performs all tests including retinal imaging on patients in conjunction with case history evaluations. Elena  assists in the ophthalmic department when she has time available.

FELIESHA BECKETT, P/T ASSISTANT

Feliesha has worked as our receptionist since 2006. She does work at times in the opththalmic department and performs frame selection but her primary role is the front desk and patient co-ordination. She also assists in recall of current patients.
Feliesha does pretesting when required as well as retinal imaging. She also manages her university and college courses very well and is an excellent multi-tasker.

Feliesha enjoys , music, reading and meeting new people.
JUSTIN MAYERS, P/T ASSISTANT

Justin has worked at the clinic since 2003 during the summers months.  He has worked on a research project with Dr. Mayers as well as participating in the organization of the ophthalmic department. He worked in the computerization of the ophthalmic area with frame and lens organization and used  some automated lab equipment.

Recently he has helped with the co-ordination of the contact lens department as well as  helping the optometric assistants in lens edging and frame repairs. He is currently completing his honors bachelor of science degree in genetics and biochemistry at the University of Western Ontario.
